Ammunition Guidelines for a Safe Shooting Experience

At Angeles Shooting Ranges, your safety and the preservation of our facilities are our top priorities. To maintain a secure environment and protect our steel targets, we enforce strict ammunition policies. We permit all cartridges up to .50 BMG; however, the use of steel core, steel jacketed, bi-metal, armor-piercing, or tracer ammunition is strictly prohibited. These types of ammo can cause sparks upon impact, posing significant fire hazards in our outdoor setting. Shooters are encouraged to test their bullets with a magnet—if the projectile adheres to a magnet, it is not allowed on our ranges. Any prohibited ammunition discovered will be held at the main office and returned upon your departure.

Please note, we only sell ammunition to customers actively shooting on our ranges, and all ammo purchases must comply with California state laws and do require a background check which we perform at the time of purchase. The quick background check costs $5 whether you pass or not.

CALIFORNIA ADDS 11% TAX ON THE SALE OF GUNS AND AMMO

Under Assembly Bill 28, which Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law on September 26, 2023, an 11% tax will apply to gross receipts from retail sales of ammunition, firearms, and firearm precursor parts starting July 1, 2024.  This tax is over and above the prevailing sales tax rate.
